A much needed refresh of services is being applied to our infrastructure over the coming weeks/months. This kicks off with upgrades to the service infrastructure. The upgrades are detailed as follows:

a) The underlining network is being upgraded to 1Gb/s
b) Additional disk capacity is being added to our storage arrays
c) Additional memory is being added to the shared and dedicated servers
d) Software upgrades to the web and database servers.
e) Enhancements to the email architecture.

The following dates have been schedule for the work:

24/01/2009 - Software and hardware upgrades to web server infrastructure. During this period the web servers are likely to be rebooted to take advantage of the additional resources. Having said that some boxes will be delayed until the following week to minimise impact.

01/02/2009 - Migration to temporary disk storage. This is to allow a larger upgrade to disk capacity on the current disk arrays. During this period all Linux/FreeBSD web servers will need rebooting. It will involve 10 minute outages to websites at the most. Tollerant web sites will also be effected by this - due to the risk of data corruption!

08/02/2009 - Upgrade of disk arrays ... this will not impact on service. The plan is to transfer current data to the new array and then keep it in sync for approx one week. Allowing soak testing to be completed.

15/02/2009 - Switch to upgraded disk storage. Again all the web servers will require rebooting to switch them.

With the major upgrades to our VMWare ESX Infrastructure we will be offering additional managed services. Which will include but not be limited to custom web server platforms including customers own hosted servers.
